TRAVEL PHOTOGRAPHY POST - INDIA

India Travel Photography

This is a bit of a tricky blog post to write as I have such mixed feelings about India. Editing all these photos together (from the comfort of my own home!) really brings back some of the positives of the trip, and some of the highlights we experienced too. But in all honestly it was a very difficult adventure at times as well. I’ve been lucky enough to travel a lot in my nearly 27 years of life and I (perhaps naively!) didn’t think I would be too phased by India. Oh, I was wrong! Also the fact that my camera broke half way through left me incredibly disheartening - capturing my travels is really important to me and I found it very frustrating at times.

It’s a crazy country - from the super smoggy streets of Delhi, to be constantly assaulted by ALL of your senses, to getting used to the way things are just done there (even if it appears to make absolutely no sense whatsoever). I always view travel as something that stretches you, challenges you, inspires you and above all leaves you with a greater sense of the world and of yourself. And although not always in a positive way, this trip did that. I think as a match between country and person - me and India just didn’t gel in the way that I’d perhaps wanted. But then again I am the kind of person that plans my meals and does an online delivery shop whilst still on holiday, and steam clean my pillows on a monthly basis.

Some of our favourite things were:

Walking through the tiny streets of the Blue City in Jodhpur

Kerala (exploring the backwaters in a small boat getting a glimpse into people’s lives there)

Exploring Jaipur with a wonderfully hospitable family who live there

Eating some delicious food in the most unsuspecting of places

Drinking chai from the tiny clay pots

Goan beaches (and some pretty fabulous yoga)

Soaking up the markets (and purchasing a few shiny things!)

Riding tuktuks around (my favourite mode of transport)

Royal Gaitor Tumbas (tombs on the outskirts of Jaipur)

Do feel free to message me if you’re going or thinking of going as I’d wish I’d chatted more to people who’d recently visited to give us some advice!
